Born in 1977 under the name Marronnier, this beauty prefers to be called Madame.
Don’t judge this bag by its cover.
It may be square and upright, but the Madame is a heartbreaking poet, who lives life at the speed of light, and loves racing down Brussels’boulevards.
The Madame bag is inspired by the earlier Marronnier, an iconic bag created in 1977 and named after the French word for chestnut tree.
Brussels is known as the city of chestnuts. These great trees owe their presence in the Belgian capital to Leopold I, first king of the Belgians.
Coupé net (cut edge) in which the leather is thinned down and then stitched to reveal the edge, is an assembling technique that counts no fewer than ten operations to obtain the desired finish.
Each season Delvaux’s design team makes it a point of honour to focus on Madame's accessories.
These are treated like fine jewellery, sometimes encrusted with coral or covered with python or horn.
Madame's trademark - a unique beauty mark - is the partial use of Galuchat leather on the front flap.
This fine leather, sourced in Thailand, comes from the pastenague ray. The small hides are characterised by a row of glittering pearls.
Working with Galuchat requires specialised artisanal savoir-faire in order to stitch around the prized pearls of this highly resistant leather.
