The Tempête, inspired by a sailboat’s trapeze, was designed in the 1960s, when sailing came into vogue along the Belgian North Sea.
Fearless and chic, this statement bag is the perfect companion for a woman who doesn’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.
Paule Goethals, a renowned architect and former student of Henry Van de Velde (founder of La Cambre, the Belgian National School of Visual Arts) collaborated with Delvaux in 1967 to create the Tempête.
This explains the graphic lines and clean cut of this iconic bag.
The sides of the Tempête are gathered by straps harnessed on the front of the bag by a row of decorative triple studs. The straps can be left open or closed.
Coupé net (cut edge) in which the leather is thinned down and then stitched to reveal the edge, is an assembling technique that counts no fewer than ten operations to obtain the desired finish.
The Tempête is reinterpreted with a mix of contrasting materials which gives the bag an extra graphic touch and emphasizes the shiny-matte juxtapositions.
Depending on the mood of the day, the Tempête can be worn tucked under the arm or on the shoulder, thanks to the adjustable shoulder strap which is attached to the top handle.
